General question for #11 #84
Are there any impacts which could not be a dependency for something else? Any dependencies which are not themselves impacts of something else? The value of the event may change depending on the perspective of dependency vs. impact, while no other events occurring. Not wanting to delve into coffee table quantum physics here, but we can see that the value will depend not only on the other contextual factors (who, geography, culture, ...) but also on dependency or impact. I cannot think of a dependency/impact which could never be an impact/dependency of something else. If we take into account the pathway - the value of an impact in the context of it also being a dependency for the next series, then is it impossible to arrive at a value in the first place? Are we to go ad infinitum in either first cause or final purpose? Surely not, so where are we to draw the line? Does the notion of valuing something in the first place make sense, if that value is inherently subjective and will change depending on who is valuing, when, for what, for whom, etc.? If the response is that a box needs to be put around this query (because people seek a value for some or other purpose, etc.), then necessarily a value judgement is being made, and in that case, this should be added as an explicit qualifying statement somewhere in the preamble to whatever is being valued.

One needs to specify somewhere whether the value is for an impact or for a dependency!
